Where are the surf lessons held?
All lessons take place at Playa Playitas in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica — a gentle, beginner-friendly beach break right next to our shop. We meet you on the beach, so no extra transport is needed.
Do I need any experience to take a lesson?
No experience needed at all. Our instructors specialize in first-timers and beginners. We'll teach you the basics on the sand and get you standing up on your first waves.
What should I bring to my lesson?
Swimwear, a towel, sunscreen (reef-safe please), and water. We provide the board, leash, rash guard, and wax. Just show up ready to surf.
How long is a surf lesson?
Our standard lesson is 2.5 hours, including a beach briefing and plenty of time in the water. We also offer private and group options to fit your schedule.
How much does a surf lesson cost?
Lesson pricing depends on group size and type (private, semi-private, or group). Visit our Surf Lessons page for current rates, or use the Book Now button for an instant quote.
Is a deposit required to book?
Yes — a 30% deposit confirms your booking. The remaining balance is collected in person on the day of your lesson. Cash or PayPal accepted (PayPal fees apply).
What is your cancellation policy?
You can reschedule at no charge with at least 24 hours notice. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your session forfeit the deposit. If we cancel due to unsafe conditions, your deposit is fully refundable or transferable.
Can I rent a board without a lesson?
Absolutely. We rent soft-tops, longboards, funboards, shortboards, fish, and bodyboards by the hour, session, or full day. Visit our Board Rentals page to browse the catalog.
Do you provide rash guards and leashes?
Yes — every rental and lesson includes a leash, wax, and a rash guard at no extra cost. Board swaps are always free if you want to try a different size.
What if the weather or surf is bad?
Safety first. If conditions are unsafe, we'll reschedule or refund your session. We keep a close eye on the forecast and will reach out ahead of time if anything looks iffy.
Are kids welcome?
Yes! We teach surfers of all ages, and bodyboards are a great option for younger kids. Parents or guardians are welcome to watch from the beach.
How do I get to the beach?
Playa Playitas is inside Manuel Antonio, an easy walk or short drive from most local hotels. We'll send exact directions with your booking confirmation.
